Save it Your Way - Let's Preserve

By following tested recipes many items can be preserved with little or no sugar or salt.Penn State Extension has been publishing safe home food preservation recommendations and providing tips and techniques to the public for over 100 years. We have come a long way in perfecting preservation methods so they arenutritious, good tasting, and safe to eat.
Penn State Extension offers the Let's Preserve series of detailed methods for processing fruits and vegetables. These can be printed from the Food Safety website or obtained from your local Extension office.
Remember, improper canning methods can cause serious illness. These are some methods that have been determined to be unsafe and are NOT recommended: steam canners, solar canning, oven canning, open kettle canning, microwave processing, and dishwashing processing. Contact a Cooperative Extension office near you to learn safe home food preservation methods.
