Dining with Diabetes

Dining with Diabetes is a program for adults with type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes and their families that will increase knowledge of healthy food choices and diabetes management.

The classes offer healthy meal planning, food demonstrations, class discussions, and new physical activity choices.


This program is free and open to the public, preregistration is required.

Session Dates

  • Information and Registration: July 19, 2017
  • Program Sessions: July 26, August 2, 9, 16, 2017
  • Follow Up Session: October 18, 2017
  • All sessions are held 10:30am to 12:30pm

Class Details

Trained Extension Educators, in consultation with registered dietitians and diabetes educators,will lead discussions addressing:

  • Important numbers you need to know
  • Planning healthy meals
  • Healthy food preparation
  • Physical activity

Classes are offered for four or five sessions, with a follow-up class. Each class offers food demonstrations and tasting, physical activity and ideas to take home, and discussions regarding important information to help you manage your diabetes. Lab tests will be offered to measure HbA1c. In addition to class handouts and test results, participants also receive the following resources: exercise DVD, Joslin Diabetes Center educational materials, complete collection of Dining with Diabetes recipes, and Plate Method placemat.
