The Entomology Short Course is an intensive day-long course designed for green industry professionals to increase their knowledge of insects. Participants will learn to identify common insects that are found in plant production, landscapes, and turfgrass; both insect pests and beneficial insects will be discussed. Prediction of pest activity through phenology and Growing Degree Days will be reviewed and management of pests using an IPM strategy will be discussed. Pesticide Recertification credits and ISA CEUs will be available for participants.

Penn State Master Gardeners of Washington County proudly present the 2012 Spring Gardening Seminar. The Spring Gardening Seminar has provided local gardeners with new ideas, sound recommendations,and research-based information for nearly 20 years. The program includes a keynote speaker and two sessions of workshops from which to choose.

An exciting day of programs, vendors, door prizes, and friendships await you at our 15th Annual Home Gardeners School. Jessica Walliser with Benefical Borders is the keynote speaker. The registration fee includes a continental breakfast, lunch, and five presentations. Multiple vendors, as well as three speakers, will have autographed material for sale. Advanced registration is required - there will be no registration at the door.

This is an all day program that offers a variety of classes for the home gardener. Topics presented this year: raised beds, vegetable gardening, bluebirds, native plants, and landscape design.

Washington County Master Gardeners host a Spring Gardening Seminar: Keynote speaker, workshops, Master Gardener Exhibits, and plant sale

Elmer Greey, Franklin County Master Gardener, will discuss pruning considerations, including equipment and "Hands-on" practice throughout Elmer's Garden.

The 2012 Four-State Turf and Ornamentals Conference will have 12 one-hour presentations offered in two tracks; Track 1- Turf Topics, and Track 2- Ornamentals Topics. Participants are free to elect and attend presentations according to their personal interest and need for recertification credits. Lunch, break snacks and refreshments will be provided.

The South Central Landscape & Turf Conference provides licensed Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicators with the opportunity to earn pesticide core credits plus credits in categories 06, 07, 18, and 23. This annual event attracts over 100 turf and landscape professionals from throughout Pennsylvania.

The Master Gardeners will be hosting a screening of ―DIRT! the Movie at the Wayne County Park Street Complex in Honesdale

Learn about starting the garden, soil analysis, the best vegetable varieties, time and spacing for direct seed sowing, and growing everyone’s favorite, tomatoes.

Penn State Extension, Westmoreland County Community College, and The Greensburg Garden Center co-sponsor this event each spring at the Youngwood Campus of WCCC.

Today, homeowners and agencies understand the best tree care comes from trained and knowledgeable arborists. The green industry has responded to this demand for trained professionals by creating certification programs. Presently the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) certifies thousands of arborists and Landscape & Nurserymen Associations certify horticulturalists. These numbers grow each year.

The Somerset Turf Conference & Mini-Trade Show is an annual event for the landscape and turf industry in Central and Western Pennsylavnia. Core and Pesticide credits in Categories 06, 07, 18, 23, & 09 are awarded to applicators during the day, after attending educational sessions.

In 2012 we are excited to once again welcome the Northwest Golf Course Superintendents Association (NWGCSA) to our list of sponsoring organizations for this event. This organization, in addition to our continual sponsors, Allegheny College and the Keystone Athletic Field Manager (KAFMO), makes this the premier Green Industry Conference in Northwest Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio, and Western New York. World renowned speakers and over 30 commercial exhibitors will be present for this day-long Green Industry extravaganza.

Central Susquehanna Turf & Ornamental is being provided to promote horticultural improvement, professionalism, and camaraderie in Central Pennsylvania. It is hoped that this conference is just one small step in encouraging the further study of horticulture, arboriculture, and turf science within the industry.

If you are a commerical greenhouse, garden center, or nursery operator in Western Pennsylvania, don't miss this tour of a very successful greenhouse operation. Following the tour, we will drive to a nearby restaurant for dinner and presentations on plant disease management and marketing to younger generations. This is a great way to meet and learn directly from others in the greenhouse business.

The day is hosted by the Master Gardeners of Delaware County at the Penn State Great Valley Campus in Malvern, PA. In addition to learning, there is great shopping at the Marketplace for plants, shrubs, special favorites of our speakers, as well as objects d’art for your garden.

A home gardeners educational event featuring Paul Epsom. Paul's talk, "How I'm Creating My 'E' Garden," will focus on Paul's' idea of a successful garden - one that is Effortless, Environmental, Enabled, Edible, and Extraordinary. Participants will choose an additional four out of eight workshops to attend throughout the day. A plant sale and flea market will also be operating all day.

Hands on Insect ID and IPM for Backyard Gardeners

The Master Gardeners are planning to host their Annual Spring Plant Sale in Honesdale on May 12th.

This program, developed in cooperation with Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and Pennsylvania Environmental Council, will focus on designing, installing and caring for landscapes that benefit our local environment by reducing stormwater, flooding, and water pollution.

The Penn State Master Gardeners - Warren County will present Color in your Garden at 6:30 pm in the Warren State Hospital Greenhouse. The program will be presented by Janis Turner.

Many people today are interested in growing and/or buying local foods and want to preserve them for use throughout the year. This process is not difficult. Yes I Can is an introductory workshop providing today's recommendations on how to safely can seasonal garden produce and speciality items.

This workshop will help homeowners and forest landowners identify invasive plants and insects and develop strategies for controlling and removing them from their property. Participants will learn if mechanical removal will work or if herbicidal applications are required to control the invasives.

The Master Gardeners are pleased to host an informative workshop in late June on pruning shrubs. Do you have some landscape shrubs that are out of control? Then this is a workshop you don‘t want to miss!

Develop an appreciation for the sun, rain, worms, good bugs, and outdoor gardens. We will have an encompassing activities and projects filled day. The garden is the foundation for integrated learning. This is a great camp to introduce our young campers to the wonderful world of gardens.
