Master Gardener Demonstration Gardens
The Penn State Extension Master Gardeners established and currently maintain seven educational Demonstration Gardens in Franklin County with a planned 8th in its initial fund raising stages.
Five are located on the Extension Horticulture Center property: Herb Garden, Perennial Garden, Pollinator Friendly Garden, Victory Garden, and the Woodland Meadow Native Habitat Garden.
The award winning Falling Spring Nursing Home Garden is located behind the Nursing Home across the street, and a Historic Kitchen Garden is located behind the John Brown House on King Street in Chambersburg.
If you have any additional questions about the Demostration Gardens, please call the Extension at 717-263-9226.
The Herb Garden is one of seven of the Master Gardener Demonstration Gardens located in Franklin County.
The Victory Garden demonstrates how to grow vegetables.
The goal of the Perennial Garden is to showcase perennial plants that do well in our climate.
The Pollinator Friendly Garden was installed and designed for the basic research to document populations of native pollinators and which plants attract them.
The Penn State Woodland Meadow Native Habitat serves as a teaching area to demonstrate how native plants are a source of food and shelter for wildlife.
The Falling Spring Nursing Home Garden is located across from the Extension Office and won the Pennsylvania Horticulture Best Public Garden award in 2006.
The historic John Brown House Kitchen Garden is located on King Street in Chambersburg and is planted by Master Gardeners to demonstrate an authentic 1860 kitchen garden.
The Patrick Gass Garden is in the planning and fund raising stages. This garden will memorialize Patrick Gass role in the Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1804-1806.
