MarketReady (developed by University of Kentucky Extension) introduces producers to the issues related to these direct marketing venues, including labeling, packaging, invoicing, and specialized customer service. The Pennsylvania MarketReady adaptation includes instruction about risk management tools and strategies for each market outlet: GAP/GHP certification, HACCP planning, effective use of product liability insurance, customer notification of allergens, and creation/testing of proactive recall processes. As a result of attending MarketReady, farmers can identify best practices for a chosen new market and can plan “first steps” to initiate sales contacts.
