Annie's Project for the Northeast
Attendees participate in discussions, hands-on activities and interact with guest speakers to learn the appropriate use of risk mitigation strategies, including liability and crop insurance. Pennsylvania has recently initiated Annie’s Project trainings; however, the impact of similar sessions in the mid-west (Illinois, Iowa, and the Dakotas), coupled with 2007 Census of Agriculture demographics showing a 30% increase (since 2002) of woman-owned farms in Pennsylvania, shows that Annie’s Project will play an important role in educating women in agriculture in our Commonwealth. At the completion, each Annie’s Project participant writes a strategic risk management plan, tailored to the needs of her own farm.
