Water and Wetlands
The center is a focal point for cross-disciplinary research and outreach on air and water quality, soil conservation, invasive species, climate change and other environmental issues of consequence to agriculture.
As of July , 2009, Riparia is the new name for the Penn State Cooperative Wetlands Center. Riparia is a center where science informs policy and practice in wetlands ecology, landscape hydrology, and watershed management. The center celebrated its 15 year anniversary in 2009.
In April 2009, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection announced plans to amend existing rules to establish new water quality effluent standards for wastewater high in total dissolved solids (TDS), including those from Marcellus shale drilling operations and other industries.
This site is a collaborative effort between Penn State Cooperative Extension and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. The goal is to provide educational resources on proper management of ponds in the areas of aquatic plants and algae, fisheries, pond structure, and water quality.
Water resources faculty and staff in the College of Agricultural Sciences at Penn State provide support for extension programs related to drinking water, water conservation, pond management, on-lot septic, non-point-source pollution, water policy, and watershed education.
