Instructions for New Users
Obtaining a User ID and Password
To access the e-data system, as well as many other Penn State resources, those who are not PSU employees will need to obtain Friends of Penn State accounts. A Friends of Penn State (FPS) account is free and provides you with a digital identity, called a User ID, which allows you to log in to web sites and other resources available through Penn State. Be sure to record your new User ID and keep it in a safe place for future reference.
Logging in with your User ID and Password
Once you have obtained a Friends of Penn State Account, you are ready to log into e-data for the first time and begin creating your own personal e-data record. Log in and simply follow the instructions on each screen. You will be prompted to complete many of the forms required by the Extension program in which you are enrolling. e-data has been designed to be easy to use. The left side of the screen contains buttons that can be clicked to access all features within the application. The right side of the screen contains important notices, announcements, and upcoming activities. The center of the screen displays the individual user’s enrollment information along with buttons for managing that enrollment record.
Important Note: If you have previously obtained a Friends of Penn State Account and used it to log in to e-data, but have forgotten your User ID or password, please DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CREATE ANOTHER USER ID. Instructions for retrieving your User ID and password are available on the Troubleshooting page and from your local county Extension office.
Cooperative Extension staff members may use their existing PSU User IDs and passwords to log in to e-data. Staff members should not create Friends of Penn State Accounts to access e-data.
