Economic and Community Development

We provide unbiased education about issues of local concern and research-based information to help people, businesses, and communities understand the choices they face and the potential consequences of their decisions. This objectivity is important and unique in an increasingly politicized world filled with advocacy and interest groups.

About Us

We do much of our work through local partnerships and collaborations because strengthening the connections between groups and individuals positions the community to respond better to future challenges.

Economic and community development has been a constant part of Penn State Extension's work throughout its rich history. Early programs focused on civic improvement, roads and infrastructure, leadership development, and public policy. Many of these issues remain vital challenges facing local businesses and communities, though the specific details have changed.
