- Miguel Saviroff graduated with a B.S. in Agriculture in California State University Chico, in 1980, and obtained a Master of Science degree in Ag Economics at the Ohio State University, Columbus, in 1987.
Miguel has been an extension educator for Penn State Cooperative Extension in Somerset County for the last 12 years. His areas of interest are: Farm Financial Management, Farm Accounting, Business Planning for new Entrepreneurs, and Managing the Hispanic Workforce. He is based in Somerset County but covers all the state according to programming of the Ag Entrepreneurship State Team.
He teaches accounting principles and gives farmers orientation for computerized accounting systems such as QuickBooks and also uses FINPACK to analyze farm businesses and is a regular instructor for the Financial and Production Training for the Farm Service Agency.
Miguel is a native of Venezuela where he was a teacher of accounting and farm profitability at the United World College of Agriculture, and an extension educator of farm management for 160 farms in the Andean Region for the Foundation for the Farmers’ Service (FUSAGRI). He was also the Director of Production for the Venezuelan Ministry of Agriculture. His wife Margaret teaches languages at a local high school and his sons Michael and Gabriel are graduated at Somerset High School and will attend Penn State Altoona.
