The Winter Annual Weed Hunt
Posted: February 17, 2012
Weeds in the winter?! Oh Yes! Weeds come in 3 growing types; perennial, biennial and annual (summer annual and winter annual). It's January and I am hunting winter annual weeds!
My focus is on the hairy bittercress. A winter annual weed seed germinates in the fall and grows during the fall, winter, and spring sending out flowers that produce more seeds! This is a never ending cycle. (If only our vegetables were that easy to grow, right?)
It is to your advantage to remove the weed before it has a chance to go to seed. Get out there even if it is 30 degrees! So get off the couch and go WEED HUNTING!
