Native Plants Tour
Posted: March 29, 2011
On Saturday, April 16th, at 1:00 pm, the Cumberland Woodland Owners’ Association is sponsoring a “Native Plants” tour at Spring Haven Nurseries in Newburg. Spring Haven Nurseries specializes in native woodland plants and shade perennials grown either in propagation beds or in the gardens located there. Nursery owners, Dave and Dianne Cornman, will lead the tour and explain how to protect native plant communities and how to practice responsible landscaping. The meeting is open to the public and there is no cost to attend. Participants should also plan to bring their own lawnchairs. Spring Haven Nurseries (http://springhavennatives.com/) is located at 1362 Mountain Road in Newburg.
Ed Dix, PA DCNR Forestry Program Specialist and Annette MaCoy, Horticulture Educator with the Cumberland County Extension Office will be on hand to give an update on Emerald Ash Borer in Pennsylvania. This will be followed by an informal “plant clinic” where they will answer general gardening questions for the visitors. Visitors are welcome to bring samples along for identification and diagnosis.
The Cumberland Woodland Owners Association (CWOA) is an organization of private forestland owners and others interested in forestry issues in south central Pennsylvania.
