The Farm Show always provides a one-of-a-kind experience, ensuring that every visitor has the opportunity to learn about Pennsylvania agriculture in an engaging and fun way. While visitors have plenty of time to prepare for this big event, farm producers who participate in the Farm Show must begin their busy preparations now. It is an excellent way to contribute to the agriculture industry and showcase your finest products.
The Farm Show has something for everyone, farmers and non-farmers, adults and children alike. In years past, the Farm Show has attracted crowds of up to 500,000 people. Because of the large attendance numbers, the facilities are state-of-the-art and are more than up to the task of accommodating everyone. The PA Farm Show is the largest indoor agricultural event in the U.S. The Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center, located in Harrisburg, houses 24 acres under roof, spread throughout 11 buildings, including three arenas.
The Farm Show is held annually to recognize youth in their successes in agriculture, to generate interest around Pennsylvania’s biggest industry—agriculture, to honor supporters and sponsors, and to exhibit the finest quality animals, foods, and products that Pennsylvania has to offer. The event provides an arena for farmers to view exhibits on the most up-to-date farm equipment, farming practices, and farming needs while also providing non-farmers with the educational opportunity to learn about the skill and energy that agriculture requires in order to produce the food we eat. It is not just agriculture though; the Farm Show is designed to include many different displays, competitions, and showcases about the many different uses of agricultural products. In short, it is a celebration of agriculture as well as the diverse products that inevitably stem from agriculture.
Featured at the annual event are 300 commercial exhibitors, 13,000 competitive exhibits, and 20 different learning stations. Among the numerous attractions, the PA preferred Culinary Connection features cooking demonstrations and competitions between celebrity and Pennsylvania native chefs and focuses on the use of Pennsylvania produced ingredients to make world-class cuisine and to showcase the diversity of Pennsylvania produced foods. The Farm Show also features a number of other crowd-favorite events such as: a rodeo, square dancing, tractors, wine competitions, and the Sale of Champions—an auction selling the champions of the year’s Steer, Swine, Lamb and Goat competitions, benefitting 4-H and FFA members.
In essence, the Pennsylvania Farm Show brings together the various communities of Pennsylvania by emphasizing Pennsylvania’s number one industry—agriculture. While agriculture is the overarching theme of the Farm Show, the event includes a number of activities that are more inclusive to the non-farming visitors. Thus, the Farm Show celebrates not only agriculture, but also the community that is created by the impact agriculture has on society, which includes everyone who partakes in the consumption of food. So be sure to bring your entire family to this wonderful annual event and take in the sights, smells, and tastes of the finest of Pennsylvania agriculture.
