My New Weigh of Life

Program Description:
MY NEW WEIGH OF LIFE is a weight-management program designed to help participants make the necessary personal choices to reach their healthier body weight. But more than that, MY NEW WEIGH OF LIFE will teach techniques for maintaining that body weight and promoting health.

Program Objectives:

  1. To prepare participants for a healthier weight and maintenance of that weight by providing accurate knowledge about food, nutrition and physical activity. They then can make choices that are appropraite for them.
  2. To make participants aware of the personal behaviors that are increasing their risk of disease and how they can choose to change those behaviors.
  3. To direct them to take care of themselves so that they can manage their choices.

Program Audience:
All adults who are interested in making healthier lifestyle choices. Helpful to those who just want to increase the nutritional value of their food choices and increase their fitness through physical activity. Participants may want to decrease, maintain, or increase their current body weight.

Comments from MNWOL class, York County, Fall 2008—

"This has been an amazing journey. I know I did not always do my homework each week but I listened intently to the course material and have done my best to change my previous habits...I can already feel the effects of losing 22 pounds during this time. I know I can continue down this path." "Although I haven't lost a significant amount of weight, my husband has lost 8 pounds due to my change in nutrition and cooking. I feel that I have succeeded regardless of the scale. My blood pressure has come down from 145/90 to 120/70. My sugar stays around 90 to 100 every day. I am not tired any longer and I feel great! Great program!!"
"I definitely shop a lot different (sic)
at the grocery store and read labels
before putting it in the cart."
This participant was not overweight.
"I came to this class to learn about nutrition, not to lose weight. I have learned very much during the past 12 weeks. I have completely changed my food shopping habits and my food pantry looks much different than it did 12 weeks ago. We buy and eat much more fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables, grains, seeds and nuts...We don't eat very much meat or fatty dairy products. I didn't lose weight but I did lose 1-1/2" from my waist which surprised me."
This participant maintained the same weight and BMI.
"I am glad I took the nutrition class that I wanted to learn about for years. I definitely changed my life. All the pieces that I have used throughout my life came together here.
I was gaining 2 pounds a month for several years. When I started this program, I only gained 2 more pounds, then I lost them. I know that I need to move more and then I will start losing 2 pounds a month. At least I'm heading in the right direction this time."
