Mark Simpson
A native of Indiana County, D. Mark Simpson is a graduate of Marion Center Area High School (1992), Indiana University of Pennsylvania (1996), and Penn State University’s RULE Program, Pennsylvania’s RUral LEadership Program (2005).
After earning his bachelor’s degree in elementary education, Mark worked as a substitute teacher and became an AmeriCorps member with the Pennsylvania Mountain Service Corps (PMSC), serving two full-time AmeriCorps terms with the Indiana County Office of the Penn State Cooperative Extension. Following completion of his second term of service, he was hired by PMSC and worked as a regional coordinator in Armstrong, Blair, Cambria, Fayette, Huntingdon, Indiana, and Westmoreland Counties for 4 ½ years. After a brief return to elementary teaching in Wilmington, Delaware, he moved back to Pennsylvania in November 2004 and joined the PennSERVE team based at the Department of Labor and Industry in Harrisburg. PennSERVE: The Governor’s Office of Citizen Service is Pennsylvania’s state service commission and oversees 15 AmeriCorps*State programs across the Commonwealth. As PennSERVE’s Program and Training Officer he provides program oversight, as well as training and technical assistance to the AmeriCorps staff and members in the field. Mark is pleased to be able to share his knowledge of National Service and volunteerism, after 11 + years of experience in the field.
