Civic Engagement: Toss Your Hat in the Ring
This two-hour interactive workshop is designed to help citizens determine if and how they become involved in local government (boroughs, townships, and school districts) by seeking elected or appointed office. The workshop includes three components:
- Local Government 101 - looks at the structure and purpose of Pennsylvania local government and looks at the duties of local officials.
- Nuts and Bolts - often delivered by county elections staff, includes the mechanics of candidacy: eligibility, petitions, financial reports, and rules and regulations.
- Lessons from the Trenches - is a panel discussion featuring local elected officials discussing their experiences running for office.
Audience: All citizens interested in serving their community through elected or appointed office
Schedule: Scheduled in January and early February of odd-numbered years
