Learn By Doing

Penn State, the developer of 4-H materials, offers an educational resource that is worth exploring -- 4-H Teacher/Leader Kits and Programs. All kits and programs are available at no cost to you.

Kits and programs include references and hands-on teaching tools. Enrolling your class and borrowing materials from the extension office is easy. The programs we offer are:

Life Skills

Kids In Control - Grade level: 3rd or 4th

This program is designed to help students develop skills needed to care for themselves and make wise decisions at home and in public.

Talking With TJ (Teamwork Series and Conflict Resolution Series) - Grade level: 2nd through 4th

The Teamwork Series is an upbeat educational program designed to teach children how to get along and how to work in a group.

The Conflict Resolution

Series discusses managing anger and respecting different points of view and teaches kids to work out their problems without fighting.

Chararter Counts! - Grade level: Kindergarten through 8th

This school-age program stresses character development based on core ethical values (pillars of character development): Trustworthness, respect for others,responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.

Environmental Studies

Adopt-A-Tree - Grade level: 3rd through 6th

(The new 4-H series titled Trees + Me = Forestry for 5th and 6th grades complements this program.) This project offers students a chance to observe and record information about trees while becoming more aware of the need to protect our environment.

At Your Disposal: A Cleaner Environmental Studies - Grade level: 3rd through 6th

Lessons help children recognize the concepts of conservation and recycling. Students will examine how behavior and technology affect our environment.

Endangered Wildlife - Grade level: 5th and 6th

(The 4-H series Wildlife Is All Around Us introduces an appreciation for wildlife and is appropriate for 3rd and 4th grades)

Students are encouraged to think about what endangered wildlife means to them and how they can make a difference. This program addresses the issues of why specific species of animals and plants no longer exist.

Plant and Animal Science

Meet The Plants - Grade level: Primary through 4th ( The 4-H series

Indoor Gardening is available for 5th and 6th grades.)
This kit offers teaching materials with hands-on experiences for children. Students learn about different conditions of light, temperature, and soil.

Embryology - Grade level: Suitable for all grades

Students will learn the stages of embryonic development, enjoy watching chicks hatch, and care for live chicks.
