Posted: February 10, 2017
This is a classroom setting training that includes the following topics: Avian diseases, biosecurity, lab submissions, S. pullorum test demonstration, sample collection and handling, fair requirements.
Upon completion of the classroom training on April 19th each student must arrange to meet Dr. Santini or a department animal health inspector at a location where they can demonstrate the techniques for bleeding and swabbing birds. This is usually done on the student’s own birds or the student arranges to use birds owned by a friend. Most people master the techniques with only a few birds. Once you have learned these skills you then submit your signed skills checklist to the department with a check for $10.00 and you will receive your Poultry Technician License.
Cost: $10 annual license fee. Submitted upon completion of the classroom and bleeding/swabbing skills training.
