National 4-H Week is an annual observance that will be held October 2 – 8, 2011. Yes, National 4-H Week is coming up soon. This is a chance to let everyone know how 4-H is special to you and why more kids should be involved.
Purpose:
During National 4-H Week, appropriate activities are arranged nationally and in each state, county and most local communities. A major aim is to enlarge the "image" so that the public realizes opportunities for youth available through 4-H youth development programs.
Objectives:
Encourage more youth to take advantage of 4-H opportunities.
Encourage more adults to volunteer as 4-H local leaders and by doing so, to enrich their own lives besides serving youth.
Acquaint the public with today's 4-H program that adapts to meet the needs of today's youth.
Recognize the important contribution of parents to 4-H and influence their continued cooperation.
Acknowledge the support of 4-H friends, partners and donors and express appreciation to them.
Report accomplishments of the past year and consider future needs and plans.
Things you can do to promote 4-H:
Make a display of your club’s work.
Write a letter to your area newspaper.
Create a radio interview.
Encourage a friend to join 4-H.
Give a talk at your school.
Try some of these ideas or others we may not have mentioned and let us know the results. Also, plan to attend science night at the Extension Office on October 5th at 7:00 PM to help us celebrate National 4-H Week.
