Summer Volunteer Opportunities with Chester County 4-H

Posted: June 2, 2017

Make the world a better place by volunteering this summer with the Chester County 4-H program!

Penn State Extension Chester County 4-H is looking for summer outreach camp volunteers. Are you a science major, or a dedicated science geek? A high school student who needs service learning or graduation credits? Interested in sharing your artistic techniques with youth? Have an athletic background and would like to pass your skills on to youth while staying fit? Maybe you would like to find a way to give back in your community by working with underserved youth?

This is the perfect opportunity for you to volunteer in a unique 4-H program which brings a free summer camp experience to youth in financially distressed communities in Chester County. Chester County 4-H will be providing four days of a science and arts camp to local area youth. The youth participants will also be creating individual projects to enter in the Chester County 4-H Fair. Each program provides a sports component to encourage youth to stay active and learn teamwork skills.

The communities we cover are mostly in southern Chester County, with some in northern and western communities, and are held outside in the neighborhood where the youth reside.

Your volunteer commitment can be one day, one week, or throughout the summer. You also have the option of volunteering with just one camp for the day. The 4-H summer outreach camp runs June 19 through August 3 with two to three two hour camps per day running Monday through Thursday starting at 10:00 AM and ending by 5:30 PM.

All volunteers will need State Police and Child Abuse screening provided by Penn State University to comply with clearance policies—no charge to the volunteer, as well as positive youth development training. If you are interested contact Toni Stuetz or Tracy Murdaugh at the Chester County Extension office @ 610-696-3500.
