StrongWomen Impacts for 2010
The Strong Women™/Growing Stronger Program is an evidence-based strength training program for midlife and older adults. In addition to building bone and muscle strength, which are important to living independently, and reducing one’s risk of chronic diseases, the classes focus on the relationship of diet and lifestyle factors to chronic disease prevention. Of participants, 73% (908/1239) reported an increase in one or more dietary behaviors (increased intake of fruits and vegetables, fiber, whole grains, calcium); and 96% of participants (1208/1254) reported improved health in one or more aspects (feeling physically stronger, increased flexibility, relief of joint pain, improved balance) since beginning the program.
