4-H State Achievement Days...Register Now!
Posted: June 3, 2011
The 67th Annual 4-H State Achievement Days registration is open! State Achievement Days will be held July 26-28, 2011 and this year’s theme is 4-H Masquerade Ball! Eisenhower Auditorium will be transformed into a wonderland of masks and mystery! Get ready….you never know who or what’s hiding behind the masks!
Two new events have been added this year. . .The Leadership Track, an event being offered by the Leadership Program Team is non-competitive and will take place on contest day, Wednesday, July 27, from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Youth who sign up for the track will participate in interactive, educational and fun workshops, and activities including parliamentary procedure, advocacy, and teambuilding. The track is a great way to fine tune leadership skills and get to know 4-Hers from all over Pennsylvania. (Please note: anyone who is interested in applying for the 4-H State Council is highly encouraged to participate in the leadership track.) And, the Penn State Questing event is being held where 4-H’ers will experience a fun day of “Questing” on Penn State’s campus this year. It will be a time of exploration using a map to find educational treasures on the Penn State campus. Participants will learn about the history, intricacies, and facts about Penn State such as; where the first Agriculture Degree was awarded, where the Navy tested torpedoes and submarines, and where President Dwight D. Eisenhower stayed on campus many years ago. You may also find one of the oldest landmarks on the campus: the stone Obelisk, and learn why the American Elm trees are so important to Penn State. This fun event will be available as both a competitive or non-competitive event, and replaces the 4-H Orienteering Contest from past years.
There will be two contests returning this year. . .Small Gas Engines and The Apprentice! Rules for both of these con-tests can be found on the 4-H web site. (Please Note: Participants registering for The Apprentice, will need to attend an introduction and tour on Tuesday, July 26 from 3:00-5:00 p.m.)
There are six non-competitive events this year: Leadership Track, Penn State Questing, Science Symposium, State Chorus, The Apprentice, and Talent.
This year’s Science Symposium event will be Robotics and Engineering Design using the new National Junk Drawer Robotics Curriculum. This promises to be a new and exciting hands-on event like none you’ve ever participated in before!
Contest rules are posted on the 4-H Web. Please review the contest rules, as some have been updated. Contest changes are highlighted in red.
