About the Capital Region

The Capital Region is one of six Penn State Cooperative Extension regions in the state of Pennsylvania and consists of nine counties: Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Fulton, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York. The region is renowned for its productive agricultural soils and is the source of over $2.5 billion in agricultural receipts. While serving as the "bread basket" of the state, the region also boasts a population of 1.5 million people. There is a 50% urban, 50% rural population base, thus issues related to diverse communities at the rural/urban interface are in the forefront.
