New Grower Study Circle: Western Hub

Penn State Extension is teaming up with beginning and establishing growers to offer study circles. Join the Western Establishing Farmer Study Circle Network for an evening focusing on weed scouting and identification. NRCS staff will also discuss programs, resources and technical assistance offered through USDA NRCS. Study circles allow you to learn from experienced farmers and experts, and compare notes with your peers. The meetings are FREE for farmers and open to all interested persons.

What To Expect

Join us for a field-based meeting, conducted in English and Spanish, where we will learn about how to scout for weeds, how to identify common weeds in vegetable and small fruit crops, and how to use basic Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies to manage weeds in horticultural crops. NRCS staff will also share information on USDA NRCS programs, resources, and technical assistance. Each participant will receive a copy of a full color guide entitled "Stubborn Weeds of Pennsylvania".

We will enjoy a simple potluck meal. Beverages and a main dish will be provided.

The meeting and weed guides are supported in part by a PDA Specialty Crop Block Grant titled "Sustainable Production and Pest Management Innovations for Next Generation Young and Latino Specialty Crop Growers" (Grant ME#44166076).
