Thinking About Running for Local Office?
First, you will be given an overview of local government, customized to your county. Next, the county elections supervisor will provide detailed instructions on filing requirements and reviews common pitfalls for candidates to avoid, particularly in filing the petition of candidacy.
The third portion of the workshop is a panel comprising a township supervisor, borough council member and school board director, each of whom was elected for the first-time in the most recent municipal election and thus has served roughly one year in office. These ‘rookie’ officials talk about their experience as candidates and perhaps more importantly their experiences as newly elected officials. As one Franklin County participant said, “It was especially informative to have the local panel of those who have run for election. Their viewpoint let us know that this is doable!”
