Penn State Extension Equine Team is presented with the Epsilon Sigma Phi Distinguished Team Recognition

The Penn State Extension Equine Team consisting of co-chairs Dr. Ann Swinker, PSU Campus, and Donna Foulk, Northampton County Extension, and the 2011 team members were Helene McKernan Clinton County, Thomas Walker, Mifflin County, Lisa Jones and John Rowehl, York County, Andrea Kocher, PSU Campus, Nancy Kadwill, Montgomery County, Dr. Dan Kniffen, PSU Campus, Cheryl Fairbairn, Chester County and Donna Zang, Butler, County.  This group of Extension workers was presented with the Epsilon Sigma Phi Distinguished Team Recognition.  This award is sponsored by the Epsilon Sigma Phi (ESP) organization.  Epsilon Sigma Phi is a professional association that is dedicated to fostering standards of excellence in the Extension System and developing the Extension profession and professional.  Epsilon Sigma Phi leads the Extension System in providing and facilitating professional development that focuses on the Extension organization and the Extension professional.

This award is designed to recognize outstanding efforts of Extension staff teams for responding to and incorporating into a specific educational program one or more critical issues.

The PSU Equine Team was awarded this recognition for their development of the Equine Environmental Stewardship program.  The program provided equine professionals, agricultural service providers, horse owners, and legislative representatives, with the latest information on equine environmental stewardship, horse health, sustainable farm management, and human resource management. This project is a comprehensive program that will provide educational opportunities for horse farm managers using a variety of delivery modes.
