In Pennsylvania, nearly all counties have reports of positives for West Nile Virus. Kentucky and California have reported additional cases of West Nile virus (WNV) in resident horses, bringing the states' equine totals to five and six cases, respectively (Aug21).
- Nearly 700 human cases of West Nile virus (WNV) have been confirmed in the United States thus far in 2012, compared to 30 in 2011.
- According to the United States Geological Survey's Disease Maps in 2012, 77 cases of equine WNV have been reported in the following states, as of Aug. 14: Arizona, California, Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, and Wyoming.
- Wisconsin Confirms Two Equine EEE Cases (Aug 22) Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) is a mosquito-borne illness caused by a virus that attacks the central nervous system of horses and humans.
