Writing Manure Management Plans
Course Description
The course has been designed to help teach owners of equine operations how to prepare a manure management plan for their farm and understand and implement conservation practices. The course is held over two sessions to allow time for development of farm maps, collection of soil samples, and completion of the plan in class. The curriculum includes:
Current Manure Regulations - Why, What, and Who?
- Implications of erosion and nutrient runoff, and the regulations that have resulted
- Who needs to comply with regulations - AOs, CAOs, and CAFOs
- What are the regulations? A comparison of the regulations governing CAOs and AOs and CAFOs
