Even though National Nutrition Month is over, the 2012 campaign theme, “Get Your Plate in Shape” is relevant all year long! By promoting healthful eating and increased physical activity, this theme actively supports the 2010 U.S.Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the 2012 USDA food icon, “My Plate” ! Eating should be a pleasurable experience, but please keep portions in mind. Control your eating by controling the quantity of food and therefore the number of calories on your plate.
Demand for locally and sustainably grown food has steadily increased and a growing number of new farmers are entering the market to fill these demands through small scale, diverse, sustainable and/or organic production.
Do you have more vegetables or fruit than you can eat? Are you interested in the learning how to preserve food safely? Extension is now offering a series of food preservation classes, using up-to-date research-based information. Each class will be composed of formal instruction, an actual preserving demonstration, samples, and recipes. Your instructor will be Penn State - Master Food Preserver , Susan Marquesen.
The Speaker's Bureau provides your organization or garden club with a 45 minute to one hour presentation by an expert Master Gardener.
