Nutritional Requirements
Apply limestone and fertilizer the same as you would for small grains. Apply 60 to 90 pounds of nitrogen at planting or at sidedress. Make sidedress applications before the five-leaf stage. In the absence of a soil test, refer to fertilizer recommendations in Table 1.2-5. Do not use row fertilizer when seeding with a grain drill.
