Soil Fertility Management
SOIL TESTING
Recommendations
The recommendations on the soil test report are made for a three-year sequence of crops. These recommendations are made based on the soil test results and on the information you provided such as crop to be grown, expected yield, crop rotation and plow depth. Typical nutrient recommendations and guidelines for changing them for a different crop and/or yield level are given in Table 1.2-5. Complete recommendations for all agronomic crops can be found on the Penn State Agricultural Analytical Services Laboratory Web site. The tables on this Web site can be used to change your Penn State soil test recommendation to a different crop or expected yield. These tables can also be used to determine a Penn State recommendation based on soil test results from another lab. If you use these tables to determine a recommendation based on results from another lab, be sure that the recommended soil testing methods listed earlier are used and that the units for the soil test results are ppm elemental P, K, Mg.
