Inputs
Field boundaries and farm features, management practices, cropping systems, conservation practices for fields - entered by farmer or agent. Imagery, soil, climate, topographic information extracted from statewide or national spatial databases.
Outputs
Maps required for nutrient management planning, nutrient balance sheets and E&S planning. E&S plan for fields and farms based on soil loss calculations. System will provide scenario assessment to assist farmers in developing E&S plans.
User
Individual farmers, agricultural consultants, manure brokers, educators and students will use the tool which will be available online. Tool is currently being used for map productions but will eventually assist farmers in developing E&S plans as required by Title 25, Chapter 102 regulations. Currently we have over 350 users with mapping for over 1,000 farms
Scales of Relevance
This tool will be relevant at scales ranging from individual fields up to large watersheds or basins. Individual fields will be analyzed for E&S planning and nutrient planning but the data will be consolidated into a database that can provide valuable information at the basin scale.
Other
PaOneStop is not completed for E&S planning but is expected to be done in Fall 2011. Outreach education and training will be provided by Penn State Cooperative Extension and other supporting agencies.
Sponsors/funders
Project support provided by State Conservation Commission, Department of Environmental Protection, PDA, National Consortium for Rural Geospatial Innovations, Chesapeake Bay Foundation and USDA-NRCS.
