About the Center

The Penn State Agriculture and Environment Center was established in 2008 by the College of Agricultural Sciences and its Environment and Natural Resources Institute to enhance the communication and integration of science to inform policy and improve and build partnerships that benefit working landscapes across the Commonwealth.

The Penn State Agriculture and Environment Center (AEC) integrates the University's education, research, and Extension attributes to build approaches that result in improved environmental performance at the farm-scape scale, small watershed scale, and higher order of regional, state, and Chesapeake Bay-wide influence. Most notably, the AEC, as a science and policy initiative:

  • Increases access to research that informs best management practices through programs and online learning and training programs such as Manure du Jour, the Agriculture and Environment Partnership, AG 101, and the Lessons from the Landscape series.  Each of these communicates and enhances access to the research and best practices that are of value to producers, communities, watershed organizations, and the network of professionals who work in support of them.
  • Facilitates the Conewago Creek Collaborative Initiative, a targeted watershed approach that seeks to reduce nutrient- and sediment loads in an integrated approach through an enhanced partnership across conservation districts, the state and federal governments, local government, non-government associations, and the private sector.

The AEC has two offices located at the University Park Campus and Penn State Harrisburg Campus.

The AEC Team

The AEC Team is comprised of professional conservation practitioners, educators, and policy specialists who have collective and extensive experience integrating research, science and policy across public, private, and non-governmental sectors. They are joined by a growing network of undergraduate and graduate students who seek opportunities to work on meaningful environmental initiatives that are outcome oriented.
