4-H Leaders Banquet & Achievement Night 2011 Recap

Adams County 4-H members and leaders were honored at the annual 4-H Leader’s Banquet and Achievement Night on October 3, 2011, at the Agriculture & Natural Resources Center in Gettysburg. Special thanks to the Leader’s Banquet Planning Committee: Sue Spangler, Peggy Clowney, Dave Jeffcoat and Deb Diehl, and Karol Sherman; along with the 4-H staff, who coordinated the evening’s festivities.
Memorial Awards were presented to the following: Anna Gilbert of York Springs received the Mrs. Edward Snyder Clothing Award and the Olwyn Weant Fashion Revue Award; Andrew Klunk of Hanover received the John Myers award; Heidi Benner of Gettysburg received the Larry Feeser, Sr. Swine Award; Lauren Nell of Gettysburg received the Rose Murren Leadership Award; Ross Stock of New Oxford received the ABC Williams Award; Brooke Eastman of Biglerville received the Clue Meyerhoffer award; Dorothy Ludwig of York Springs received the William Miller award; Danny Stoner of Gettysburg received the Frederick J. Rarig award; and Anna Stoner of Gettysburg, received the Robert Lott award.
During the banquet the 4-H National Recognition Awards were announced for Adams County. The awards are based on a member's comprehensive record of activities in 4-H, current 4-H involvement, and their excellence within a specific program area. Senior Recognition Award winners were: Anna Stoner, Heidi Benner, and Jocelyn Riser all of Gettysburg; Megan Stoermer of Aspers; Andrew Klunk of Hanover; Brooke Eastman of Biglerville; Joe Murren, Heidi Miller, and Rachel Ulrich all of New Oxford; and Anna Gilbert of York Springs.
Junior Recognition Award winners were: Hannah Riser, Katelin Young, and Danny Stoner of Gettysburg; Kristen Feeser of New Oxford; Robert and Cameron Tuckey of Biglerville; Cailee Bower of Gardners; and Justin Klunk of Abbottstown.
Retiring 4-H members and eleven year members were Autumn Smelser of Arendtsville; Kelsey Diehl of Fairfield; Anna Gilbert of York Springs; Ross Stock of New Oxford; Natasha Zeigler of Biglerville is a retiring member with nine years and Sadie Green of Gettysburg is retiring with seven years of 4-H participation.
Ten year 4-H members recognized were Heidi Benner of Gettysburg; Devin Byers of Biglerville; Joseph Murren of New Oxford; Lauren Nell of Gettysburg; and Robin Singleton of York.
The "I Dare You" Leadership Award was awarded to five 4-H members. The award honors 4-H teens for excellence in character, balanced personal development, and leadership potential. Those receiving the “I Dare You” book award were: Elizabeth Ryan and Matt Harbaugh, Fairfield; Amber Woerner, Orrtanna; Mary Dingle, Littlestown; and Dorothy Ludwig, York Springs.
Teens recognized for completing the Teen Leader project were Jordan Schubert and Cheyanne White of Littlestown; Anna Stoner and Heidi Benner of Gettysburg. The four teens received teen leader pins.
All 4-H Leaders who attended received recognition for their years of dedicated service to the 4-H program. Special recognition was given to first year leaders Andrew Klunk and Thomas Topper with a bronze clover pin. Leaders Susie Benner and Tammy Rentzel five year volunteers were recognized with a silver clover pin. Sue Spangler and Nancy Zumbrum were recognized for ten years of service with a plaque and gold clover pin. Patricia Murren was recognized for fifteen years of service receiving a plaque and pearl clover pin. Ellen Black, Elaine Gilbert, Deb Jeffcoat, and Richard Oneto were recognized for twenty five years of service receiving a clover pin with emerald chip and 4-H clocks. Alice Angell was recognized for forty five years of service receiving a fleece embroidered coat.
Deb Flickinger received the Partner in 4-H Award. The Distinguished 4-H Leader Award was given to BJ Wagner, a leader in the 4-H Swine Club and Chairman of the Junior Livestock committee.
Peggy Clowney and Deb Diehl received a framed recognition certificate for three years of service on the 4-H Board of Directors. Elected as new directors to serve a three year term on the 4-H Clubs of Adams County, Inc. Board of Directors were Abe Bucher, Tom Marr and Peggy Clowney.
The Adams County 4-H Beef Club provided the table decorations. Special thanks to Stoney Point Farm Market, Littlestown, who catered the banquet.
