Juniata County 4-H Community Service Project
Walkin' the Dog for Charity
The fifteenth annual Walkin’ the Dog for Charity is scheduled for April 26th at the Mifflintown Playground from 10:00am-1:00pm. The first 50 walkers that get $35.00 in pledges receive a goody bag. Note: You do not need to bring a dog to walk. Proceeds this year go to Ronald McDonald House Charities, Danville. This county wide community service project has donated over $162,000 to charity.
Summer Youth Camps
This camp is held at the Penn State Lewistown Center, and it is for adolescents in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. It is designed to stimulate interest in the sciences. The camp's main theme for 2014 is robotics. Camp dates are June 16-20, 2014.
The camp is for girls ages 11-14, and is being held at the Penn State Lewistown Center and Extension Office on June 16-20, 2014. The theme of the camp is "Girls Rock."
4-H camp will be held June 29-July 3, 2014, and at Camp Shehaqua, in the Pocono Mountains.
The Penn State Juniata Valley Master Gardeners are hosting a "day of gardening" workshop at the Penn State Lewistown Center and Extension Office on Saturday, April 5th, from 8:30am-2:30pm.
The Symposium is open to the public, and will provide information on popular garden topics; such as, rain barrels/water conservation, disease and pests, herbs discussion, container gardening, pollinator friendly gardening, and plant propagation.A light lunch will be provided. Cost is $30.00
The Spring Plant Sale
The sale will occur May 17, 2014, at the garden beside the Mifflin County Library. There will be many varieties of plants, flowers, and vegetables available, along with compost for sale.
