Explanation of Scoring Showmanship
A. Judge the exhibitor (NOT the bird) in the following areas:
- Ability to handle the bird
- Ability to examine and position the bird
- Ability to care for the bird
- Overall knowledge of poultry
B. Birds are judged in the following areas:
- Condition
- Cleanliness
- Health and vigor
C. Showmanship helps youth develop the following life skills and
knowledge:
- Practical knowledge of poultry
- Confidence and pride
- Better communication skills
D. Helps with retention of older members who can serve as Junior Leaders
and help teach material to younger, less experienced members
