Policy & Procedures for Ordering Eggs
Hy-line Hatchery in Elizabethtown, PA has agreed to supply eggs to 4-H Embryology Programs (grades 2-8) free in Pennsylvania. However, in exchange for their generous donation, they ask that we keep their time and cost commitment for distribution to a minimum. The following is the agreement we have developed with Hy-line. This offer is for PA 4-H Embryology Program Participants only. The County Extension professional must coordinate local needs and submit order.
Background of this policy
Hy-line is a large producer of fertile eggs for the commercial egg industry and vaccine production industry. They usually handle case and truckload quantities. They do not typically distribute eggs in small quantities. However, Hy-line is willing to supply quality fertile eggs for the Pennsylvania 4-H Embryology in the Classroom project as long as we are willing to work with them to minimize Hy-line's cost.
Please make every effort to combine orders in your county and region if possible.
Policy to be followed
A. Fertile eggs are available year-round ONLY for grades 2-8.
B. There will be three options for obtaining free fertile eggs from Hy-line: You need to state which method you would like the eggs shipped if they are not being picked up. Check costs prior to shipping. Some shipping methods have become very expensive. Shipping cost is your responsibility.
- Pick up directly from Hy-line Hatchery in Elizabethtown, Pa. All eggs must be picked up on Mondays between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Morning pick up is highly preferred.
- Ground shipping is now available at a lower cost starting this year. By doing the ground Federal Express or Post Office, it will take at least one to three days for delivery. If they choose to use these methods, they will need to invoice you for the Shipping.
- We will still ship by Federal Express Overnight for those who request us to do so. However, please be aware that this method is much more expensive than 2 day or ground delivery. To have eggs shipped by Federal Express each county must supply a Federal Express Account number. The shipping will be billed directly to the account of the receiving party. Eggs will not be shipped unless the receiving party provides a Federal Express Account number.
