Around the State in 4-H
May 16, 2012 marked a historical moment for the Pennsylvania 4-H State Council and PA Collegiate 4-H. For the first time since the council’s/club’s formation the officers were invited to participate in the USDA Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack’s visit to the Penn State, University Park campus.
The Indiana County 4-H program was honored in several ways at the recent Indiana County Human Service Council Volunteer Recognition Breakfast.
Over the past 8 years, the Pennsylvania 4-H State Council has had the opportunity to meet many influential people. The officers meet with faculty, administration, staff and even deans. They often meet one-on-one with their state legislators and promote the 4-H program and high profile events. Lately though, the officers have had some rock star status opportunities, like the one on April 30, 2012.
The teen VIP 4-H club in Montgomery County Pennsylvania has been serving the community for the last three years. Their primary goal is to educate their peers about the origins of community service and how youth can play a crucial role in changing the world.
Members of the 4-H Force Robotics Team 4031 traveled to St. Louis, Missouri from April 25-29 to compete in the FIRST National Championship with their robot "The Enforcer."
Beautiful warm weather graced this year’s 4-H Forestry Judging Contest at the 4-H Wildlife and Forestry Field Day event held at the Ag. Progress Days site in Rock Springs, PA on April 21, 2012
The 2012 4-H Wildlife and Forestry Field Day was a wild success! The event featured both competitive and non-competitive tracks, and over 86 youth and adults participated in the event.
In celebration of Earth Day 2012, over 300 students from Steelton Elementary School participated in an activity led by the middle school team of 4-H Youth and Families of Promise students and facilitator Rick Sayles.

Washington County collected 6,418 pounds of food and supplies for the Washington County Food Bank on Saturday, March 17, 2012.
State Fashion Revue is continuing, with an infusion of enthusiastic volunteers who will help to ensure that 7 Regional Revues will be held in 2012 to select the maximum 60 participants in the State Revue which will be held during State Days. Sandy Hall (sph3@psu.edu) is the state event coordinator.
It’s time to start thinking about summer and State Achievement Days! This year 4-H State Achievement Days will be held August 7-9, 2012 at The Pennsylvania State University campus.
