Penn State Extension and Pennsylvania 4-H, with funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, created Stop the Invasion: Unwanted Plants, Bugs and Other Pests, a hands-on curriculum to address the threat of invasive species.

Youth in the Science Track of the 2017 Wildlife and Forestry Field Day learned to apply wildlife and forestry knowledge in on-site skills sessions. A sign language interpreter (center) assisted in explaining tree measuring technique.

The 2017 4-H Wildlife and Forestry Field Day, held at Rock Springs, PA, was another “wild” success! 4-H youth and adults from across the state explored the wildlife and forestry sciences. The event featured an Exploratory Track for younger 4-H youth and a Science Track for teens. The theme for the Exploratory Track presented tools and methods for wildlife and forestry research, while the Science Track focused on applying research knowledge to managing forests and wildlife.

PA 4-H Wildlife & Forestry Educational Field Day is a state level experience for 4-H youth slated for April 22, 2017! It begins at 9:45 AM and runs until 3 PM in Rock Springs, PA (at The Ag Progress Days Site), 12 miles south of State College, PA.

The 2017 4-H Potato Grading and Identification Contest was held at the Pennsylvania Farm Show on January 11. Seventy-three 4-H members comprising 16 teams participated in this exciting contest. 4-H youth from Bradford, Dauphin, Indiana, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton and Union Counties all tested their knowledge of spuds.

Pennsylvania was one of 17 state teams that competed in the 37th annual National 4-H Forestry Invitational from Sunday, July 31, through Thursday, August 4.

The top four winners in forestry judging were (left to right)  1st Place: Ella Miller (Tioga County), 2nd Place: Riley Roslund (Tioga Couny), 3rd Place: Hilary Fernandes (Tioga County), and 4th Place: Eva Olufson (Potter County).

The event featured an Exploratory Track for younger 4-H youth and a Science Track for teens. The event also included a competitive knowledge and skills test for teens hoping to attend national 4-H competitive events in wildlife and forestry.
