Westmoreland County 4-H Travel-All

A citizenship club open to any 4-H'er between the ages of 13 to 18 who wants to have fun, travel and learn more about our county, country and world.

We are a very active, dedicated, sincere, and fun loving group. Our delegation ranges in size from 10 to 15 with 3 to 4 adults. We are located in southwestern Pennsylvania, 35 miles southeast of the city of Pittsburgh. Most of our members live in rural areas, small towns, and some on farms.

Activities

Each year we travel or host another county from another state for 8 to 10 days during the summer. Our members learn from our visitors and in return we learn from them. The group travels not as tourists but as fact finding individuals, ready and willing to take an active part in a new way of life with their exchange families.

Meetings

Meetings are held at the Westmoreland County Cooperative Extension Office in Greensburg on the 4th Wednesday of the month (January through October) at 7:00 p.m. In November and December we meet on the third Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

Community Service Projects

We do community service work with the elderly and our veterans.  We collect personal care items for the Aspinwall VA Hospital in Pittsburgh; travel to Aspinwall to do programs for the vets; make favors for meals on wheels; hold a Red Cross Blood Drive; hold a Christmas party and perform skits for the elderly at Emeritis of Latrobe; visit the vets on Veteran Day at Emeritis, spend time and talk to them and share stories and treats.

Purpose

Become better citizens of the United States of America, and the state of Pennsylvania by learning more of their history, geography, economics and people.

Learn how to travel, not as casual passengers but as interested, fact finding individuals by increasing a person's perception of their surroundings.

Develop personally as an individual by learning to think and speak on your feet and to learn to live, work, and play with people regardless of their practices, customs, and beliefs.

Better appreciate home, your family, friends, and Westmoreland County. To learn more about the 4-H club work in other areas of the your county, state, and country.

Encourage further participation in the 4-H program with regards to project work, activities, and leadership responsibilities and expand 4-H understanding beyond the local county to help meet the needs of our youth.

Open our home to a visiting 4-H'er and enrich our individual lives.

Create new and lasting friendships.
