Laurel Highlands 4-H Horse Club
Love horses, can’t have one of your own? Maybe you have a horse, but need some help with ground manners and basic horsemanship skills? The Laurel Highlands 4-H Horse Club may be just what you need! We learn about safety around horses, horse care, breeds, personalities, barn and pasture management, and basic handling skills using natural horsemanship techniques and an obstacle “playground.” Activities are held at “Stillwaters Farm” in Donegal, using our five older, trained horses. We enjoy field trips, poster talks and community service. Our Club is open to students between the ages of 8 and 19. Meetings are held the 1st Sunday of the month from 3:00-5:30 p.m.
Please note: the 4-H Club is NOT a learn-to-ride program, just learning about horses and handling them safely on the ground (grooming, leading, bathing and working them through our Horse Playground obstacle course). We DO try to have all the kids riding bareback through the obstacles by then end of their first year. Members may also work toward the 4-H Horsemanship Levels testing and awards program.
We meet the 4th Sunday of the month from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. and our first informational meeting is March 22nd, 2015.
