The 2014 4-H Foods Revue was held Tuesday, July 15 at Oakhurst Tea Room.
Eleven 4-H members participated in the 2014 dairy beef show held at the Somerset County Fairgrounds in Meyersdale, PA recently.
On Thursday, June 26, thirteen Somerset County 4-H’ers participated in Regional Fashion Revues.

Local youth were among 88 4-H’ers from 38 counties across the state who met in Harrisburg recently for the annual Pennsylvania 4-H Capital Days program.
The contests, held May 13th, included 4-H Public Speaking and Presentation Contests as well as a Poster, Photography and Small Animal Essay Contest. William Kincaid was the night’s Master of Ceremony and Kate Barron served as the Mistress of Ceremony. Alice Ireland and Larry Hay were the presentation judges for the evening, and Deb Orendorf served as the public speaking judge.
The Somerset 4-H held their annual officer training at the Somerset Jr. High School on April 15.
Starting in May, Echo Kincaid will be working with the Somerset County Extension staff as a 4-H summer assistant.
The Somerset County Dairy Field Day was held on May 3at Grazing Valley Farm (Kaufman Family) in Friedens, PA. Thirty-nine 4-H’ers of all ages, from across the county were in participation to better their knowledge and gain more skills on their dairy projects and in the dairy industry.
Come Learn About Pennsylvania's Forests and Wildlife! The PA 4-H Wildlife & Forestry Educational Field Day is a state level experience for all 4-H youth. It is slated this year for April 26, 2014, and will take place in Rock Springs, PA (at The Ag Progress Days Site), 12 miles south of State College, PA.
4-H members from Penn State Extension District 11, which includes Bedford, Cambria, and Somerset Counties, participated in the State 4-H Leadership Conference, January 17-19 at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center in State College.
The 54th annual PA State 4-H Horse Show was held October 25-27 at the PA Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg.
Jan Scholl, Associate Professor, Department of AESE, 4-H Family and Consumer Science Programs at Penn State University, and Carol Pyle, the program assistant at Penn State Extension in Somerset, conducted workshops on foods and nutrition.
Over 200 4-H award winners, parents, leaders, and business sponsors were in attendance at the Annual Somerset County 4-H Recognition Dinner held at the Berlin Community Building on Thursday, October 17, 2013.
A delegation of four 4-H’ers from Pennsylvania enjoyed several days of fun and learning during the 59th annual National 4-H Dairy Conference on the University of Wisconsin campus in Madison, September 29-October 2, 2013. The educational program attracted approximately 200 youth and adult delegates from across the U.S.A. and Canada.

The 2013 4-H Foods Revue was held Tuesday, July 23 at Oakhurst Tea Room. This year, there were 30 participants that competed in one of four categories. These categories included Appetizers and Soups, Salads, Main Dishes, and Desserts. The theme for the Foods Revue was “4-H Buy Fresh, Buy Local.” For this theme, the participants were asked to buy the produce they used in their recipes from local farmers and markets that followed the Buy Fresh, Buy Local guidelines online.
