Penn State Equine Extension Associate Bethany Bickel prepares to take out TRASH, the garbage can horse. About 100 feet of the horse's digestive tract is represented, from north to south, and it's all in the can.

The cecum is the 1st section of large intestine, where helpful "bugs" digest plant fiber. Feeds must be changed gradually so the microbial population has a chance to adapt.
