Wanted: 4H Knitting Leaders
Posted: December 5, 2012
Helping 4-H members learn a skill like crocheting and knitting can be a real challenge as well as a gratifying experience. Some members will master the skill easily, while others will struggle. Children who are taught to crochet and knit learn so much more than just “stitches.” They learn problem solving and math skills. Their reading, motor skills and eye-hand coordination are enhanced.
Would you like to help children develop a lifetime-long appreciation for yarn work? In doing so, children find an outlet for their creativity which builds self-confidence and self-esteem. Your role as a leader will set the stage for these opportunities.
As a volunteer leader, all that is needed is a genuine interest to help youth make the most of learning opportunities. According to recent research, youth who are provided with positive adult interactions grow to become strong and confident adults.
To become a 4-H leader, contact Penn State Extension in Pike County, 514 Broad Street, Milford PA 18337, at 570-296-3400 or by e-mail.
