See what our 4Her's have been up to.

4-H Values Community Service

Volunteers spent 630 hours in community work valued at $23.07 per hour = $14,534.10.

One of the greatest things learned in 4-H is serving the community.

During the 2014-2015 4-H clubs served in the following ways:

  • Collected items for the food bank – 200 lbs.
  • Collected items for animal shelter
  • Volunteer time visiting with nursing home residents entertained with music, played games and did a project
  • Sent birthday cards for nursing home residents
  • Litter pickup – Keep PA Beautiful
  • Planting flowers and caring for them all summer
  • Making small table favors for nursing home
  • Collecting clean plastic containers with lids for a soup kitchen
  • Petting zoo
  • Collected donations for Perry County Veterans Affairs to aid in transporting veterans to appointments

When 4-H members were asked what value do you think the project had on the local community, answers included:

  • Saving the community money.
  • Developed a positive relationship with persons and/or agencies served
  • Helped with urgent needs – food banks, animal shelter

What impact or knowledge did the community service project have on the 4-H members:

  • Awareness of needs of people – veterans in our area
  • Smallest actions make the biggest difference – a birthday card
  • Helping others
  • Thinking of others
  • Awareness of aging and/or disabilities
  • Improving, caring, proud to help
  • Don’t Litter
