Six County Members Attend State 4-H Achievement Days
Posted: October 24, 2012
Six Northumberland County 4-H Members attended and competed in contests at the 2012 Pennsylvania 4-H State Achievement Days, which was held from August 7-9 at Penn State University. During the three-day event, members were given the opportunity to explore what College Life could be like at Penn State as they stay in the dorms and eat meals in the dining hall. Members from all over Pennsylvania attend this event annually. The first night of the event includes an State-Wide Community Service event where members are transported by Penn State buses to the Snider Agricultural Arena and have the chance to participate in several different hands-on community service activities. The second day of the event is when members participate in either contests or non-competitive, hands-on learning experiences. Finally, the last day at the event is the time to recognize the members for their hard work and achievements at the event. The final day of the event is also the time for the “moving on” of the State Council Officers (and installment of new Officers). Sarah Bassett, a member of the Backwoodsmen 4-H Club and County 4-H Council, completed her term as State Council President. (Watch for an article on Sarah’s accomplishments soon!)
In addition to Sarah Bassett, other 4-H members who attended were: Kate Bassett, Lizzy Bassett, and Amber Rarig from the Backwoodsmen 4-H Club and Dave Savidge and Gabby Smith from the Leck Kill 4-H Club. Special recognition goes to Gabby Smith, who won Third Place out of 28 competitors in the Livestock Judging, Junior Contest! The other four members who attended competed in Air Rifle Junior (Lizzy Bassett and Dave Savidge) and Air Rifle Senior (Kate Bassett and Amber Rarig). Congratulations to all of you for representing Northumberland County 4-H so well!
