Posted: September 1, 2011
Kate Bassett, a "life-long" member of the Backwoodsmen 4-H Club received the 4-H Member of the year award from Christy Bartley, State 4-H Program Leader, at the opening ceremonies of Pennsylvania 4-H State Achievement Days. Kate, who also is on Northumberland County Council, received the award for her dedication and service to her club and County 4-H Programs.
In addition to her work at the county-level, Kate has served as a Camp Counselor for the CSC 4-H Camp Brule group (where this year, she earned the "Key Counselor/Junior Camp Director Title), served as Chair of the CSC Teen Advisory Council, and has attended multi-county events (such as Teen Day Away) and State-wide events (State Achievement Days and State Leadership Conference) for several years. Kate is now attending the Penn State University's College of Ag Sciences at University Park and still has another year of 4-H to accomplish!
This is the second year in a row that a Northumberland County 4-H Teen has received this honor. Last year, Elizabeth Pope (also of the Backwoodsmen 4-H Club) received the award. The 4-H Member of the Year Award is awarded to 4-H members who have completed their Junior or Senior Year in High School or are attending an institution for any type of Higher Education. If you are interested in applying for this award, please contact Sam Nicola and he will send you the application and information when it is released.
