Other Montgomery County 4-H Projects
Two popular short term courses in Montgomery County 4-H are the Veterinary Science Short Course and the Toastmasters Short Course. Held for 6 - 8 weeks at the end of February or March, these courses are designed for youth ages 13 - 18.
The Veterinary Science Course addresses how to prepare for a career, look at schooling needs, and help participants experience some of the daily duties of a veterinarian or vet technician. Other topics include determining animal health (office visits), animal handling and safety, acupuncture, lab radiology, and parasite control. Members even have an opportunity to view a surgery procedure. We are very pleased to have the staff of the Animal Medical Center in Trappe volunteering to be our instructors.
The 4-H Toastmasters Junior Leadership & Public Speaking Course is facilitated by certified members of Toastmasters International. This course will prepare participants for job & college interviews, school presentations and leadership opportunities. Increased confidence and getting rid of those "butterflies in the stomach" when having to speak in front of others in a fun and friendly atmosphere makes this a popular course. Many of our participants return for several years to hone their skills.
