Members Compete at Regional Small Animal Show

Five Indiana County 4-H members competed in the recent Western PA 4-H Small Animal Show held in Westmoreland County. They participated in goat, dog, rabbit and communications programs.

Three members of The Bunny Bunch Club participated. Ashley Shaw exhibited a Thrianta senior buck and a Rex junior doe, which were named Best of Breed. She also placed third in junior showmanship. Morgan Knox exhibited six rabbits, winning Best of Breed with her American Fuzzy Lop senior doe, English Lop senior doe, Netherland Dwarf senior buck, Mini Satin junior doe, and Tan senior buck. She also won Best Opposite of Breed with her Himalayan senior doe and placed second in both senior showmanship and skillathon. Natalie Pavlik exhibited both rabbits and cavies. In the rabbit show she exhibited a Holland Lop senior doe, which was named Best Opposite of Breed. In the cavy show she exhibited an Abyssinian senior sow, named Best of Breed and Best in Show; an Abyssinian senior Boar, Best Opposite in Breed, and an American senior boar, Best of Breed and First Reserve.

Three members of the Lucky Kids Club were in the goat show.  Elizabeth Bruner exhibited six goats, placing first in the Pygmy wether class. In meat goat classes, she was third and fourth in the 3-6 month class, fifth in the 6-9 month class, fourth in the 20-24 month class, and fourth in the 24-36 month class. She also placed first in junior showmanship and in the junior skillathon. Abigail Bruner exhibited two goats, winning second in the Pygmy wether class and sixth in the meat goat 20-24 month class. She also placed fifth in intermediate showmanship. Morgan Knox exhibited seven goats, placing first with her Nigerian Dwarf junior doe kid. Her Nigerian Dwarf milking doe 3-5 years was Reserve Senior Champion and Best Udder. Her Nubian junior doe kid was Junior Champion, and her Nubian yearling milker was named Senior Champion and Best Udder. In the Pygmy show, her 16-20 month entry was Reserve Junior Champion, and her 12-16 month entry was first. Her junior yearling Fiber Goat won Reserve Champion. She also placed fourth in senior showmanship.

Elizabeth Bruner also competed in the dog show with her dog “Honey” as a member of Faithful Furry Faces. Her placings included second in junior sub novice obedience, second in junior open showmanship, fifth in junior dress up class, and fifth in beginner agility on lead.

In communications classes, Natalie placed first in the senior poster division and had the Champion Overall Poster. Abigail placed second in the senior poster division, and Elizabeth placed third in the junior poster division.

John Clark Bruner also participated as a cloverbud. Over 60 members from 8 counties participated in the event.
