Conte Organic 4-H Award Available

The Indiana County 4-H program will again be offering the John and Lorraine Conte Organic 4-H Award. Through a very generous donation, we have been able to establish a 4-H award for members who introduce organic growing methods to their 4-H projects.

This award comes to us through Beth Marshall, the daughter of the Conte family. The award is composed of a $300 cash prize for first place, a trip to the annual PA Association for Sustainable Agriculture Conference in State College (a very popular and exciting conference held in February) for the winner and an adult, and possible smaller prizes for other winners.

In order to teach members what the use of organic methods might mean to your project, we do have an extension staff member available to discuss this with your group or members on a one to one basis. Both animal and non-animal projects are eligible and could qualify. You can begin planning now for this project. Applications are due Oct. 1.

Applications are available from the office. But you should be planning your organic project now.
